Your First Appointment - Here's what to Expect

We welcome new patients at Health & Human Performance Chiropractic! No matter whether you found us through word of mouth, Yelp, Facebook, or the internet, we look forward to seeing you. The information below will help to ensure you have a smooth and worry-free first visit to our office. Please feel free to call our staff and ask any additional questions.

Office Etiquette

In order to create a comfortable environment for all our patients, we ask the following:

  • Please arrive on time for your appointments
  • Silence or turn off your phone and/or electronic devices. If you must take a phone call, please do so in the hall outside the office before or after your appointment
  • If you are running late or cannot make your appointment, please call the office as soon as possible to avoid a Missed Appointment Fee. We will always try our best to accommodate you. We do not “double book” appointments. The time is set aside specifically for you!

Scheduling

Upon scheduling, we will need to gather demographic information, as well as your payment status (insurance, or non-insurance). We will ask you general health questions regarding your desire to receive chiropractic care, in order to ensure we schedule enough time for your first appointment with the doctor.

Expect your first appointment to take approximately 1 hour from beginning to end (new patient paperwork, time with the doctor, and closing paperwork). All other follow-up appointments will be 15 minutes.

Location & Parking

We are located at 20720 Ventura Blvd. Suite 240, right across the street from Target. Please park in one of our designated parking spots (60, 61, 62, and 63, behind staff vehicles).

Please do NOT pull forward. You can also park in a Visitor space or in a metered spot on Ventura Blvd. We thank you for your cooperation!

Appointment,

Consultation

Your chiropractor will begin the new patient appointment by reviewing your New Patient Intake and obtaining a complete history during your consult. They will ask you what your goals are with chiropractic care, and what your main areas of concern are.

The consultation may involve questions about physical, emotional, and chemical health for a fully integrated approach.

Examination

After your consult, the chiropractor will perform a full examination as well as a test designed to determine if you are a candidate for chiropractic care and if so, to determine how to proceed with care. Because the doctor must determine your condition through the examination, the process may be slightly painful.

If you are experiencing high levels of pain and cannot tolerate the examination, chiropractic care is not the first step in your healing process.

Report of Findings

If the doctor has determined that you are a candidate for chiropractic care, they will discuss and explain the cause of symptoms for which you sought care, the stages of healing and recovery, the effects of chiropractic, and the need for self-care and compliance.

They will also explain the chiropractic adjustment and the effects it will have on your body.

If you are not a candidate for chiropractic care, the doctor will discuss a referral to the proper specialist.

Treatment

Once the report of findings is discussed and you as the patient has consented to care, the chiropractor will move forward with care. This can include soft tissue therapy, adjustments, and rehabilitation exercises.

Wellness Program

Once the treatment has been completed, the chiropractor will discuss the patient’s treatment plan (how often chiropractic care is needed, home exercise interventions, and suggested nutraceuticals, essential oil, massage therapy, yoga therapy, or corrective exercise therapy).

Insurance

If your personal health insurance does not cover chiropractic, we do offer discounted, non-insurance prices for care, as well as care packages to save cost! HHP has plenty of patients whose insurance does not cover chiropractic care, or who choose not to bill through their insurance.
